Core Concepts in Leisure, Recreation and the Experience Economy

Leisure and recreation are made up of a large range of activities and organizational providers.  At NC State, we classify these into categories of parks, recreation, tourism, sport, and event management.  This chapter will provide an overview of these different types of leisure, the types of  audiences they attract, and the organizational classifications of providers within the leisure industry.  Additionally, there are distinct benefits for children, adults, and seniors from participating in recreation.  As part of completing this chapter, you will know what types of benefits are provided to these different audiences (they aren’t all the same!).
