      • Proper use of equipment: Biolog plate reader, bacterial cell culture incubator, vortex, centrifuge, Implen, Miroculus Miro Canvas, Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) MinION & GridION
      • Pipetting with micropipettes
      • Bacterial plate streaking
      • Bacterial plate incubation
      • High molecular weight (HMW) genomic DNA (gDNA) isolation
      • Spectrophotometer DNA quantification
      • Preparation of DNA sequencing library
      • Nanopore DNA sequencing

Lab Safety and Personal Protective Equipment

  • Before beginning lab work, watch the BIT Lab Safety video (9:40 min).
  • Note that closed-toe shoes and long pants/skirts are required for working in the laboratory space. If you arrive unprepared for this safety requirement, you will not be allowed into the laboratory and may lose access to the learning experience.
  • Eating and drinking are prohibited in laboratory spaces. You may use the carts outside the lab entry for storing drinks or snacks. You must wash your hands between bench work and consuming any food or drink, as well as when returning to the bench from consuming any food or drink.
