This is an at-a-glance checklist for the elements to include in your contributions to this Pressbook. [1]

Content

  • An about the author page:
    • Photo (optional)
    • Your department and title
    • Modes of communication/connection (email, LinkedIn, etc.)
    • A brief bio (optional)
  • Your content, complete and proof-read
  • Any appendices (lesson plans, assignments, etc.)

Style and Formatting Consistency

  • Content is organized under headings and subheadings.
    • Headings and subheadings are used sequentially (e.g., Heading 1, Heading 2).
  • The tone of your writing can be either academic, conversational, and in first or third person.

Images

  • Images that convey information include alternative text (alt text) descriptions of the image’s content or function.
  • Graphs, charts, and maps also include contextual or supporting details in the text surrounding the image.
  • Images do not rely on color to convey information.
  • Images that are purely decorative do not have alt text descriptions. (Descriptive text is unnecessary if the image doesn’t convey contextual content information).

Licensing, Citations, and Attributions

  • Attributions for any adapted/adopted/remixed content
  • Citations for any materials consulted
  • Proper licensing chosen and selected for your section of the Pressbook, that does NOT have a NoDerivatives (ND) restriction, nor an ‘All Rights Reserved’ designation

DOIs

  • If you would like your section to be assigned a DOI, please reach out to the Open Knowledge Center at NC State University Libraries via this webform.
