Content: What should you write about?

Katya Mueller and David Tully

We do not have many set requirements of what must be included in your sections, but rather we have guidelines to help you as you write.

The first, and only requirement is that you include an ‘about you’ description on your part of the Pressbooks. This would include your job title, department, any modes of communication and connection you would like to include such as your email, LinkedIn, or Bluesky handle, and, if you would like, a photo of yourself. If there are any examples, templates, or any additional ancillary materials you would like to include, please include them within your own part. Any general items can be included in the back matter in the appendix.

The rest of your content focus is up to you. Browsing the sections in this book, you will see faculty members have focused their writings on various topics.

To help you get started, here are some guiding principles you can follow to help structure your writing:

Guiding Principles

  • Why did you apply to take part of the Libraries’ Open Education initiative(s), what did you hope to learn/gain?
  • What course did you implement these changes in? And what were the changes?
  • What did you learn?
    • What went well?
    • What were some of the challenges?
  • What advice would you give someone in your department who was interested in adopting an open approach to teaching?
  • Did you receive any student feedback? What were the comments?
